Thiruchopuram Beach (Cuddalore - Tamil Nadu)

Here's the 3rd of the secret beaches around Pondicherry. Check out the first 2, here and here. The third is personally my most favourite one. Its a bit far from Pondi, but the trip was most definitely worth it.Its the first ever beach where I've been to, where there was no a single human being except us. I should mention, to find the beach would have been one huge trouble without the mobile GPS! It was a lonely road with cashew but plantations on either sides.Similar to Serenity beach, or rather, much more than serenity beach, this is a fishermen ...

Sadras Fort (Kanchipuram - Tamil Nadu)

You may remember my post on the Dutch cemetery at Pulicat. Pulicat also has a Dutch cemetery that I unfortunately did not have time to visit. Well, so basically, Dutch had occupied this part of India for a long time, before British and alongside British as well, before British took over completely!Apart from Pulicat, Dutch forts and settlements and cemeteries can be seen in quite a few places in this locality. 2 more places very close to Chennai would be Sadras Fort and Alamparai (Alhambra) fort. I'm yet to visit Alamparai, so here's the travelogue on Sadras.Sadras is the anglicized ...

Curious Case of 'NO' surnames - Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu- a state in India where three things differ from main stream India. 1. We don't acknowledge Hindi , as National language ( An easiest way to annoy your Tamil friends is to quote , " Don't you know Hindi, it's your National language ". 2. We receive rains in October and November , when rest of India drenches itself during June to August. 3. And the final one is , we don't use our surnames in regular Indian sense of showing off the caste we belong to. And here comes the curious case of no surnames. We, Tamilians ...

A trip to the Temple town of Tamil Nadu

The weekend before last, we made sudden travel plans and Saturday evening saw us drive down to Kanchipuram, famous for the numerous temples that it houses and a dear neighbour of my hometown Chennai. The 2 hour drive on good well lit roads was made all the more enjoyable by the blessings that the Rain God showered. We reached by around 8:00 PM, found a nice place to stay and post check in and dinner, we comfortably sunk into the soft beds and slipped into the slumber world. Early morning on Sunday, we started out in the beautiful weather to ...

Travelogue: Visit to Tamil Nadu!

This trip was actually not supposed to happen. Infarct it was only because of mom n dad making persistent attempts in changing our original Ooty-Mysore plan that I decided to plan instead for the Tamil Nadu tour. So while it was at its beginning it was meant to be just a trip to Bangalore to meet brother, it became full-fledged holiday for the family. So at the outset let me put the original itinerary that we had planned:Bangalore - Madurai - Rameshwaram - kanyakumari - kodaikanal - BangaloreConsidering the fact that the total distance we had planned to cover in ...

Government Owned Tamil Nadu Bus

I needn’t write more for anybody who has already travelled in one of these Government Run Buses. It’s physically one of the most horrible experiences that your body would ever encounter. I am not really very glad that I had an opportunity for such an experience. We were travelling back from Kanchipuram to Bangalore. The bus is so well maintained that we could hear each and every glass window clattering and the best part is most of the clattering continued even after we reached home. The seats were amazingly uncomfortable, the only comforting factor in the travel was the fact that ...
